Polish Tomato Sauce {Sos Pomidorowy}
Classic Polish tomato sauce is a bit different from what I’ve had here in America. We clearly don’t use any Italian herbs, so it may be a bit different from what you’re used to. Tomato sauce is creamy and smooth, with dynamic tomato flavor. It is a top favorite sauce for gołąbki, but also other meat dishes, like kids favorite: pulpety. I can also just eat it with crushed potatoes, a plate full of comfort food right here 🙂
Polish Tomato Sauce {Sos Pomidorowy}
Ingredients
- 1 can (14.5 oz / 410 ml) of diced or stewed tomatoes
- 1.5 cups / 400 ml of chicken or vegetable broth
- 3 tbs of tomato paste
- 1/2 tsp of salt
- 3 bay leaves
- 5 each peppercorns and allspice (whole)
- 3 tbs of heavy cream
- 2 tbs of butter
Instructions
Blend tomatoes with tomato paste, broth and salt. Transfer to a medium saucepan, add spices and simmer on medium-low for about 15-20 min.
Turn off, add heavy cream and butter. Taste, add salt, if needed.
Notes
Take out peppercorns, allspice and bayleaves before serving, if you wish. I like to leave it in and wait who's going to bite into one first. 😉
Cook, share, eat and smacznego!
