This is one of those “hole-crap-I’m-running-late-with-dinner” type of dishes. It takes about 10 minutes to make, takes zero prep, and kids love it. What’s not to love? Smooth, mild sauce with slightly crunchy carrots and sweet peas. I’m a fan. It may be a comfort food for a lot of Poles. Marchewka z groszkiem [mar-hev-kah z grosh-kyem] had a reserved spot on every childcare center’s menu, served probably a few times a month, so if you went to a Polish przedszkole for any amount of time, you’ve been “exposed” to it from an early age.
Polish Peas and Carrots {Marchewka z Groszkiem}
Ingredients
- 16 oz package of frozen peas and carrots mix
- 2 tbs of butter
- 2 tbs of flour
- 1.5 cups of water
- 1/2 tsp of salt
Instructions
Melt butter in a medium sauce pan, add flour and heat for about 20 seconds.
Add water and peas and carrots (frozen OK).
Stir until well combined. Boil on medium-low for about 5-7 min (until tender).
Serve as a hot side dish with potatoes and a favorite piece of meat (I like kotlety mielone) or over kopytka or kluski śląskie for a vegetarian meal.
Enjoy and smacznego!
