Braised Cabbage & Dumplings Łazanki Halushki
Today in my Polish kitchen I’m showing you how to prepare a classic and simple Polish dish: braised cabbage & dumplings {łazanki z kapustą}. This dish is a well known dish in America but it is often referred to as “halushki”, which is a Czech or Slovak version of this dish. I hope you enjoy!

Good morning!
I recently starting watching you and find you to be very informative. My question is in reference to your pastry board…I also have one and it needs to be oiled, what type of oil would you recommend? It’s never been oiled or used.
Please keep up the videos and the no cooking Friday tours. It’s like getting a visually vacation!
Frances, I used a method recommended by my carpenter dad. I soaked the board with vegetables oil, as much as it will take. I kept adding for about 2 days. It took over a quart of oil. Just pour oil onto your board and distribute with a brush. Keep adding until oil starts pooling and creating little oil puddles. Then wipe off excess and done.
I just made your Braised Cabbage & Dumplings {Łazanki – Halushki}, oh my goodness, this is so delicious. I made the roux in the pan like you did, so delicious, and yep, might have to let the pants out😆. This was my first time making it, and made the homemade noodles too.
I’m an home cook who recently began cooking Polish cuisine for our pastoral assistant (who is Polish) at our church. I made the Lazanki z Kapusta and it was delicious. Anna, you are nothing short of an amazing chef. Your dishes are Polish comfort food that makes you want to curl up in front of the fireplace and take a happy nap! My Polish friend is also very thankful. You have allowed me to provide a little touch of home to one who provides so much to so many. I am grateful.
Oh my Gosh Anna! I’ve always made this with store egg noodles and it was ok. Today I used your recipe and my wooden board my dad made for my grandma to make them homemade. The noodles were exquisite and the roux made this so amazing! I was so excited I sent pictures to my family and brought those to my kids. SOoooo good!
